150-Day Academic Calendar Exploration

Monett Schools is exploring what a potential 150-day academic calendar could look like for the district. The potential calendar being studied would include approximately 150 academic days, school days that are about 18 minutes longer, a similar August start date, and a regular academic year that would end at the end of April.

The current Monett Schools calendar includes approximately 169 instructional days. A 150-day calendar would reduce the number of days students attend during the regular academic year while increasing the length of the school day and creating additional opportunities for staff collaboration, professional learning, student support, intervention, and enrichment throughout the year.

No decision has been made to change the academic calendar. The calendar will not change this school year. Monett Schools is currently in the exploration and development process, gathering information and carefully considering what a different calendar could mean for students, families, staff, and the community.

Not a Four-Day School Week

Students would continue attending school five days a week during regular academic weeks.

Traditional School Breaks Would Remain

The potential calendar continues to include Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break, and other scheduled breaks.

The School Year Would Look Different

The potential calendar being explored would include approximately 150 academic days, longer school days, and a different start and end to the traditional academic year.

Community input will be an important part of determining whether this type of calendar could work well for Monett students and families.

Where We Are in the Process

We are currently in the exploration and development phase. District staff and design teams are studying areas such as academics, intervention and enrichment, staffing, operations, finances, transportation, meals, childcare, and the potential impact on families and the community. As this work continues, information will be shared here so families can follow the process, understand what is being considered, and provide input along the way.
