The Monett R-1 School District received the School Safety Grant for $200,000 from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This grant will enable the District to undertake safety enhancements across the District, reinforcing its commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff.
The District is enhancing security with several measures. Fences are being added around the Scott Regional Technology Center (SRTC) and the back playground of Monett Elementary School (MES). Additionally, safety and security window films are being installed in any place within the District that does not currently have it. The fencing at SRTC will protect student work areas and control daytime traffic, while the MES fence will secure the playground adjacent to the wooded area. The security film installation will strengthen windows and repair any previously damaged films.
The Monett R-1 School District prioritizes the safety of its students and staff, continually reviewing and adopting the most effective safety practices. The new fencing at SRTC will create a safer, controlled space for students engaged in practical learning, while the fencing at MES will allow students to play securely. The window film installation will enhance window durability against impacts and add an extra layer of security against unauthorized access. These measures collectively enhance the physical security of our schools, making them safer places for students and staff. With these upgrades, the District addresses immediate safety concerns and prepares facilities for future safety needs.
The District's commitment to safety extends beyond these specific projects. While the installation of fences around the SRTC campus, MES playground, and safety window film are significant steps, the District's efforts to ensure a secure learning environment are ongoing. The District continuously seeks and evaluates the best practices in school safety.
